Code of Conduct

At the Kootenay Burlesque Festival, we are committed to creating a safe, respectful and inclusive environment for all performers, crew, volunteers and audience members.

We celebrate artistic expression while maintaining clear expectations around professionalism, consent and mutual respect.

These guidelines are in place to support a safe, respectful and professional environment for all participants and to ensure clarity around expectations within our shared spaces.

Our Expectations

All participants are expected to:

  • Treat others with respect, both on and off stage
  • Honor personal boundaries and obtain clear consent in all interactions
  • Maintain professionalism in backstage and shared spaces
  • Contribute to a supportive and inclusive environment
  • Communicate openly and respectfully with festival staff and participants

Unacceptable Behaviour

The following will not be tolerated:

  • Harassment, discrimination or bullying of any kind
  • Unwanted physical contact or violation of personal boundaries
  • Intimidation, coercion or predatory behaviour
  • Disruptive or unsafe conduct that impacts others

Consent & Backstage Environment

We recognize that burlesque spaces often involve varying levels of undress.

All participants are expected to:

  • Respect the privacy and comfort levels of others at all times
  • Avoid entering dressing or backstage areas unless authorized
  • Refrain from making comments or engaging in behaviour that may make others feel uncomfortable

Consent and mutual respect are essential in all shared spaces.

Accountability

Failure to uphold these Community Guidelines may result in:

  • Removal from the festival
  • Revocation of performance opportunities
  • Being barred from future events

The Kootenay Burlesque Festival reserves the right to take appropriate action to maintain a safe and respectful environment for all.

Our Commitment

We are committed to fostering a space where artists feel safe, respected and celebrated.

Safety & Reporting

We are committed to ensuring that all participants feel safe, supported and respected throughout the festival. If any concerns arise, we encourage open communication and will respond thoughtfully and respectfully.

If you experience or witness behaviour that does not align with our Community Guidelines, we encourage you to report it. Concerns can be brought to:

  • Festival Producers
  • A designated safety contact who will be introduced at the event and available throughout the weekend

All concerns will be taken seriously and handled with care and discretion, with respect for privacy wherever possible.

We are committed to creating an environment where concerns can be raised in good faith without fear of negative consequences.
